Album Review: Sun Satellite - Message From A Traitor
Whenever you first sit down to listen to a new album or EP from a new band you pray for good luck. Some prayers tend to go unanswered. Sun Satellite's 'Message From A Traitor' begins with the fast-paced “Shotgun (We Are Not Your Friends),” which overwhelms ears with hard-hitting drums and distorted guitar parts. Neil Uppal’s drums throughout this song and on the EP as a whole might be one of the few highlights on Message From A Traitor.
As you quickly try to forget the first song, “Hardly Breathing” begins with vocals from Matt Moffit that become lost beneath the Sun Satellite’s accompanying music. “Stars” starts off with a spoken transmission, then giving way to an erratic guitar part that holds steadfast to its complete lack of composure. Moffit’s vocals lose their presence in this song as well and don't regain any encapsulating power on the entire EP.

Album Review: The Felix Culpa - Sever Your Roots
'Sever Your Roots' is the latest offering from Illinois based post-hardcore, prog indie rockers The Felix Culpa. This really is an epic record and it’s easy to understand why it took 3 years to make.
Track one 'New Home Life' is one of those tracks initially you might skip, but when you go back to it you’ll realise how beautifully and sombre it is, and you’ll appreciate the effect it has on the rest of the album.
'Our Holy Ghosts' demonstrates their use of dynamics, which help to create immense dramatic effect throughout this entire song. It is perfectly constructed and has so many great moments, my favourite being the unison vocal line; “To be in love with love is not enough, this time” which is sung over and over, which builds each bar with extra instrumentation and drum breaks to a huge crescendo.
Album Review: Empire Holiday - Wouldn’t You Like To Know EP
You know when everything about a band screams at you “hate us” but they’re stupidly catchy and you can’t help but sing along? Well Empire Holiday do not fall into this category. In fact, their synth ridden pop-rock is easy to hate. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted them to blow me away with catchy hooks and youthful positivity but they just didn’t.
Opener and title track 'Wouldn’t You Like To Know' sounds like the band have gone through a list of clichĂ©d lyrics and tried as hard as they can to incorporate as many into one song as possible. The chorus wants to be catchy, but doesn’t have the oomph that saw bands like Metro Station and Hello Goodbye hit the mainstream. In fairness, Our Story is a much better attempt but although the fast paced, catchy as hell chorus momentarily grabs your attention, the song struggles to keep you intrigued through the static and pretty tiresome verses.
Album Review: The Wonder Years - The Upsides
If you're looking for an upbeat pop-punk album, full of positive energy then The Wonder Years' latest effort, 'The Upsides' is the album for you. From opening track 'My Last Semester', a lyrical theme of moving on is firmly established, as Dan "Soupy" Campbell states "I'm not sad anymore, I'm just tired of his place".
Throughout "Soupy" provides an introspective and personal account of his life, as he takes a somewhat sunnier approach to life, with 'Logan Circle' and 'New Years With Carl Weathers' being fine examples. The latter declaring that its going to be the bands year and with a collection of songs like this, it could well be.

In a recent interview Mayday Parade's Derek Sanders' stated the band have unreleased material, that could be used for future online or EP release.
Sanders said:
"Other than that we’ve done a lot of like b-sides and stuff and some acoustic versions of songs. There’s a lot of material we have that we haven’t released yet. We’re not sure what we’ll do with it yet but maybe at some point we’ll put it up online or do an EP kind of thing. It’s too early to say now, but there’s a lot of stuff for everyone to hear."
