The Bronx, Living With Lions, Sonic Boom Six and More Added to Hevy Festival 2011

The Bronx have been announced as the Sunday headliners on the Rock Sound x Macbeth Stage at this year's Hevy Festival.

In addition Living With Lions, Sonic Boom Six, Flood of Red, Paige, Turbogeist, Marmozets, and Straight Lines have been added.

Whilst other new bands announced include Acoda, Autumn In Disguise, Floods, Hill Valley High, MakeThisRelate, Page 44, Steel Rules Die, The Bottlenex, The Hype Theory, and The Ocean Between Us.

Straight Lines/Tiger Please London Show Announced

Straight Lines and Tiger Please will play a one-off show in London at the Bull And Gate on May 17th.

Frightened Rabbit, Straight Lines, Devil Sold His Soul, Talons and More Added To 2000Trees Festival

Frightened Rabbit will join Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip as headliners at this years 2000trees Festival, which takes place on July 15th & 16th at Upcote Farm, near Cheltenham.

In addition Islet, Ellen & the Escapades and Straight Lines have also joinedthe line-up on the main stage. Whilst Devil Sold His Soul, Talons, Exit Ten, and The James Cleaver Quintet have been lined up for The Cave (new second stage), while Dizraeli and the Small Gods, StringerBessant, Sound of Rum, and Stagecoach will perform in the Leaf Lounge.

Live Review: Twin Atlantic, Straight Lines & Scholars - The Peel, Kingston 1/2/11

That they have a song called ‘Show Some Enthusiasm’ could easily be seen as something of an irony on the night but Scholars don’t seem to pay the somewhat ‘polite’ crowd much mind at all. Recent singles ‘Tornadoes’ and ‘Fractures’ are good tunes but standout tracks ‘Wreck’ and set closer ‘Turn Around’, with its mock argument finale, are superb slices of breathless, maniacally chaotic pop-rock. Go and see these guys play; they’re a delightful surprise with a sound all of their own.

Whilst they don’t quite match their predecessors reckless abandon, Wales’ Straight Lines begin their set with last single ‘Say It For Your Sake’ and their tuneful infectiousness immediately has the audience shuffling forward. Having recently been in the studio recording the follow-up to 2010’s breakout, ‘Persistence In This Game’ it is interesting to see how the two new songs that they play compare to older offerings. As it turns out they sound heavier and more technical whilst remaining true to the band’s sound. ‘Freaks Like Us’ in particular is a real bruiser punctuated by tempo changes, all the while anchored by frontman Tom Jenkins’ striking vocals. Old favourites ‘All My Friends Have Joined The Army’ and ‘Antics’ still sound reasonably fresh but if the rest of the new record matches the ambition shown by offerings on show then it should be onwards and upwards. Exciting times.

Deaf Havana - Smiles All Round
Released on November 1st through A Wolf At Your Door Records.

After line-up changes which ultimately saw the band ditching the screamo vocals, James Veck-Gilodi takes on main vocal duties on a permanent basis and the resulting material is supeerb, as 'Smiles All Round' is a quick blast of melodic alt-rock brilliance. Storming guitars and pounding drums compliments Veck-Gilodi's clean vocals well, as the bands change in direction is much welcomed and holds a lot of promise.
