Album Review: Caleb Lionheart - Think Hardcore, Play Pop Punk
This EP does exactly what it says on the tin. New York based five-piece, Caleb Lionheart have stepped out of their notorious basement shows and produced 6 tracks which take the Pop-punk melodies of bands such as Blink 182 and blend them with fast-paced riffs of This Is Hell and The Movielife."Adrenaline" kicks off the EP with a bang with a combination of standard punk beat, raw guitar riffs and rebellious lyrics. A theme that continues with "Home" a heavy and speedy track with a chorus that quickly becomes memorable.
Gang vocals are used at the start of "Vultures", a track that see's the band becoming quite angry, whilst at the same time questioning their future. A key point of the track is the bridge, where standard sing-a-long "Hey-oh-oh-oh" vocals are used and bring the it alive.
Next is a quickie, "Keep Time, Lose Track" is one minute and seventeen seconds of fast-paced through and through punk rock. It has all the chateristics; fast beat, raw guitars and gang vocals.
The final two tracks of perfect example of who Caleb Lionheart are. Both "Rules of Attraction" and "The Circus We've Become" are 3 minute wonders of rough punk rock with subtle pop-punk chateristics; you can't be a pop-punk and not have a song about romance.
Caleb Lionheart are small raw band with loads of energy and potential. They have a good blend of catchy songs which have a rough force behind them. "Think Hardcore, Play Pop Punk" will take Caleb Lionheart out of their basement and beyond.

The Get Go Release Free EP
The Get Go have made a 5 track EP available to download on their myspace.Heavens Split-Up
Heavens have announced they are splitting up. The duo of Josiah Steinbrick and Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba released their only album, "Patent Pending" in 2007.Steinbeck released the following messege:
"Sorry, that's just the way it's going down. Matt will still be doing Trio stuff and last I heard he might be working on a wonderful solo record. I'm not really positive actually but I'm sure it will be great. MySpace wouldn't let me delete this so over the next few weeks it will transform to a page focusing on production/writing/studio work for Cornbread and I. Probably not that interesting for most of you but stick around if you feel like it.
We had a busy 2008 - finished up our debut album with Simon Lord who was the vocalist for UK psych/synths group Simian, recorded a single with Tim Presley of Darker My Love, wrote/produced a bunch of tunes for the upcoming Har Mar Superstar album, teamed up with him and Adam Green for some X-Mas tunes and a secret jam for the new year, Cornbread finished up the new Cursive album, I worked with Dangermouse on a great acid folk record called Joker's Daughter...and we did some other stuff but I can't remember
So that's that. I expect the majority of you who read this to delete yourselves but this would be the place to check out future music oriented things. Thanks to everyone who had nice things to say...I don't want to make a big deal about it though and it's not really that much of a shocker. Just didn't want to confuse a lot of people."

Gerard Way has stated the next My Chemical Romance will not be conceptual.Way told MTV said:
"I want to go into it not thinking about a definite story," he explained. "I said that [while working on The Black Parade], but I still think I had something to work out. I think I had to get it out of my system, as far as writing concept records. I had to at least do one more before I stopped doing them. Obviously, they'll always be cohesive though. The songs need to fit together; that's what makes a great album."

Houston Calls Respond To Bassist Leaving
Houston Calls have posted a blog, responding to the recent news of Bassist Jarrett Seltzer leaving the band. The band said:
"Hey everyone,
So as you may or may not know, Jarrett recently quit our band. He was a huge part of our band and we appreciate him a ton. As bad as this is, we are still going to continue as a band. We all love playing music together and nothing short of extreme tragedy is going to stop us. We are going on our first US tour with our new songs and we will be having a friend filling in on bass duties for now. We are also taking him to Australia with us, so don't fret, we aren't canceling any dates. Right now is a tough time in all our lives and honestly the only way we can press on is with the help of you guys. You are our support and without you we would never be where we are (as cliche as that sounds). So, I write this to ask you guys to please come out to the shows this tour, if even just to say hey outside the show and not come in, just so we know you're still with us. We all deal with problems in different ways, but surrounding ourselves with great friends is the best way of getting through the tough, arduous times. We would love nothing more than to see you guys, crash at your houses, party, and just have a great time. So with that being said; if you plan on coming out to a show and want to hang out please let us know on this blog! If you want to hang and maybe have a place for us to stay and can't afford to get in to the show say so! We'll get you into the show for free! It's the least we can do for you guys. Again, thanks for everything and we hope 2009 brings wonderful, exciting things for us AND for you guys. Happy holidays and have a wonderful new year.
xoxo
Houston Calls"

If their new single is anything to go by, the Florida Pop-Punkers 7th album will be a return to form after the mature sound of "Coming Home" and with a new label and Mark Hoppus producing, "Not Without a Fight" could be a piece of Pop-Punk heaven.
Two Tongues - "Two Tongues"
Earlier this year, details of a Say Anything-Saves The Day "super group" release were announced. Surely with both Chris Conley and Max Bemis' distinctive voices and brilliant song writing, this can only be a good thing.

It's been awhile since the New Jersey Post-Hardcore group released a full length. Since 2006's "A City by the Light Divided", the band have been dropped from their label, released a compilation CD/DVD and a split EP with Japanese Screamo/Post-Rock band Envy. Now they have signed with Epitaph and are set to return with "Common Existence". The album will include "As He Climbed The Dark Mountain", one of the highlights from the recent split EP and a song which increase the anticipation of this full-length.
Crime In Stereo
2007's "...Is Dead" saw Crime In Stereo change their style in a more melodic direction. 2009 will see the band working with Mike Sapone again and is expected to be released in the summer on Bridge Nine.

Taking Back Sunday - "New Again"
Since 2006's "Louder Now", expectations for Taking Back Sunday's follow-up have increased and with "New Again" being the first since guitarist Fred Mascherino. If new song "Carpathia" is anything to go by, it'll be more of the same radio-friendly rock tunes, that the band have became known for.
Death In The Park
Hot Rod Circuit's Andy Jackson's new band continues where he left off with well-paced rock songs. The band's recent digital EP showed a band with the potential to release one of the best albums in the forthcoming year.
Say Anything
Max Bemis is a busy man, along with his Two Tongues side-project, his full-time job will see Say Anything release a self-titled release in 2009.
Brand New
Will it or won't it come out in 2009? That's what various people on various forums have been saying about Brand New's 4th album. However with the recent update from the band makes it highly likely it will be released in 2009. It'll be interesting to see what direction Jesse Lacey and company will take.
Manchester Orchestra - "Mean Everything to Nothing"
The band's follow-up to "Like Virgin Losing A Child" is expected to gain the Georgia band more fans and acclaim with Andy Hull's superb mature song-writing being one of the bands characteristics.
Arcade Fire
The Canadian Indie group are expected to continue to please audiences and critics later on the year.
Portman - "Bedrooms & Village Halls EP"
Alter The Press! favorites Portman are set to follow-up their superb "From Here To Your Eyes and Ears" with a new EP early in the year.
Lights
The young Canadian singer will follow-up her self-titled EP with new material in 2009 and surely an appearance on the Warped Tour will raise her profile.
A Day To Remember - "Homesick"
The Post-Hardcore five-piece will follow-up their breakthrough album with "Homesick" in February with a UK tour also planned.
MiMi Soya
The British female-fronted Pop-Punk band will continue to establish themselves as one of the top rising UK bands.
Imogen Heap
It's been four years since the London electronic singer released "Speak for Yourself", an album which gained a lot of attention. Her self-produced 3rd album has continuously been delayed due to other commitments; however it will see the light of day in the first half of 2009.
The Appleseed Cast - "Sagarmatha"

Bassist Jarrett Seltzer has left Houston Calls. He released a statement about his departure:
'Hello All,
As some of you may of heard I played my final show with Houston Calls last night. After playing for so many years I have had to put the band behind me and move onto something new and different. I have been in a band with Tom since May 23rd, 1996. He told me to pick up a bass and start a punk band with him. Through that came the years that ended up with Houston Calls being formed. These guys are some of my best friends and it was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in quite some time. I have toured the world with them and gotten to do what so few actually get to. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
After years of touring something about myself changed. I used to want to be on the road 365 days a year. I guess overtime I just started to grow out of it. I have been touring since I got out of high school in the year 2000. It just started to take its toll and I didn’t find myself enjoying it like I used to. While on tour I would count how many days were left until I would be home. It just didn’t feel right anymore.
These guys are my best friends in the world and I wish them nothing but the best. I decided to leave because I didn’t want to tour anymore. There were no internal conflicts or fights that brought me to this point. It’s really about wanting to be home and establish more of a “normal” life.
I want to first thank Tom, Okie, Josh & Jose for all the years spent together. Through the good and the bad we kept it together no matter what anyone told us or how down and out we may of felt. I’d also like to thank Zach our Booking Agent, Richard & Stefanie over at Drive Thru and everyone else we have worked with over the years. Of course I need to thank anyone who ever came to a show and showed their support for our band. It’s been a pleasure getting to meet so many different people and I’m very grateful for the opportunites I have had thanks to this band. It means more to me then I can even explain.
