Polar are ready to take the UK by storm, and to agree with their own words below, are most definately the 'fresh sound that punk rock needs'. These 5 guys play ferocious punk rock that will literally take your breath away. Go see this band live and you will see for yourself, but be prepared, there is a very high chance that at some stage of the night you will get a very up close and personal performance from lead vocalist Adam, as he roams the crowds during their blistering performances like a man possessed. You have been warned.
For Fans Of: The Comanche Cipher, United Nations and Gallows.
Alter The Press: Why should Alter The Press readers check you out?
Polar: We're loud and in your face with a fresh sound that punk rock needs.
ATP: What is the story behind the band?
Polar: There's nothing in specially in terms of how we got together, we had all been friends for a long time and had been in diffrent bands. When the opportunity came along we just happened to all be in the same place, had the same attitude and ideas towards the music creating the sound you hear now. Less than one year later and your here we are today.

Say Anything Bassist Announces Departure

Say Anything bassist Alexander T Kent has announced his departure from the band.
Kenny Vasoli (The Starting Line/Person L) will be filling in on bass during Say Anything's forthcoming dates with Motion City Soundtrack and Saves The Day.
Kent posted the following message:
"It really has been a wild ride. I remember so well the fairly warm December night 6 years ago at Chain Reaction when Max asked me to play in Say Anything. I've learned and grown so much while being in this band and these words will not come close enough to expressing the gratitude to everyone in the band, everyone who worked for and helped the band, and all of the amazing fans who took time to come see and talk to us. Thank you.
All of the guys and I are still best friends and hopefully always will be. There are no hard feelings and there was no altercation. I have just decided to start the next chapter of my life. As George Bluthe once said, "It's time for me to mozy on, partna." I'm not sure what I'm going to do besides start brewing beer and going to school. I'll still play music too - maybe with Brian from Weatherbox. So if you're interested you can keep a finger on the keys...
I wish the very best to Say Anything and everybody in it. Thank you all so much for all the experiences and memories.
I love everyone,
Alexander T Kent"

NOFX/The Spits Split 7" Announced
Album Review: I Am Sonic Rain - Between Whales & Feverish Lights
Recently Deep Elm Records has been adding numerous post-rock acts to its roster; Goonies Never Say Die, Dorena, Last Lungs and now I Am Sonic Rain. On paper 'Between Whales & Feverish Lights' sounds promising, with the label suggesting it is a release for fans of Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Ros, Mogwai and Godspeed You Back Emperor, all of whom are popular within the genre, and in some cases have made it bigger.
However 'Between Whales...' ultimately is disappointing and turns out being your usual instrumental post-rock album; its beautifully atmospheric, uplifting and inspiring yet it lacks originality. Each track is drawn out with most tracks passing the five minute mark, although the bands understanding of the genre is accurate, their influences are a little too obvious; 'Fog Is Drowning Us' for example has a Sigur Ros-like chord progression that is effective but is all too reminiscent of the latter. Whereas the bands Explosion In The Sky influence is seen at various points, see 'As Rain We Fall' and 'Days All Seem The Same'.
